Thank You, Throb Stopper

Nothing on T.V.  He already knew that.  The recliner still insisted on attention.  Who was he to deny the soft velour a few moments of satisfaction?  Quietly, that chair had been there through all the aches and pains, the sunny days and the rains.  Today, it screamed, SIT!

He sat.  He sat and watched nothing for hours sipping soup between naps.  Soup with noodles.  Had it not been for the pills, he might have done something constructive like take out the trash, or build a rocket.

He licked the barren gum line where just yesterday an angry tooth sat.

He swallowed another pill.

Thank you, throb stopper, he thought.
